Pedernales River House
Nestled near Johnson City, Texas, this residence is framed by the rugged charm of the Pedernales River and the ancient Cow Creek Limestone bluffs, formed over 100 million years ago. The home’s design showcases a museum-quality, poured-in-place concrete structure that seamlessly integrates with the natural landscape. Its thoughtful construction maximizes energy efficiency through thermal mass and strategically designed roof overhangs.
The entryway opens into a breathtaking double-height space, where expansive glass panels offer uninterrupted views of the river, blurring the line between indoors and out. The layout is thoughtfully divided into two wings, with shared living spaces anchoring the center and private quarters extending to either side. A custom staircase leads to an elevated office, providing a serene vantage point to take in the surrounding landscape.
At the rear, facing the river, two intimate pavilions are connected by airy bridges, aligning with the contours of the ancient rock formations. These secluded retreats maintain a strong connection to the main residence while offering a peaceful escape within the natural environment.
